Builders in Heathfield

Heathfield is one of the closest towns to our base at Cottenden Farm in Stonegate, and the surrounding villages, Broad Oak, Cade Street, Punnetts Town and Cross in Hand, are where a lot of our enquiries come from. We have already built here: 43 Uplands Park Road in Broad Oak is a two bedroom new build bungalow we delivered from groundworks to handover, and it is typical of the kind of infill plot work the area produces.

The housing stock around Heathfield is broad. The High Street and the older streets around Cade Street carry Victorian and Edwardian houses, while most of the town is twentieth century: interwar and post war bungalows on generous plots, and estate housing from the sixties onwards. That mix shapes the work we are asked to do. Bungalows on wide plots suit extensions, loft conversions into new roofs, or in some cases replacement with a larger dwelling, and the older solid wall houses need refurbishment done by people who understand how they are built.

Two local factors are worth knowing before you plan a project here. First, much of the countryside immediately around Heathfield sits within the High Weald National Landscape (the former Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), so schemes outside the built up area are judged carefully on design and landscape impact. Second, the ground is Wealden clay across much of the district, which makes foundation design and drainage something to take seriously rather than assume. We price both realistically from the first visit.
